Mixed Martial Arts

“A boxer is like a lion, the greatest predator on land. But you throw him in the shark tank and he’s just another meal.”

Renzo Gracie

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a sport most known for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). In MMA combatants fight full contact in a cage enclosure – for their safety – and may use striking, wrestling and grappling techniques.

The original UFC was started by Rorion Gracie as a way to showcase the effectiveness of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu against other martial arts (sport BJJ generally doesn’t include striking but our kids classes do). Early fights were in a knockout format against boxers, judokas and many others but Royce Gracie won out, as he did at UFC 2.

As the sport evolved, more and more competitors started to train in multiple martial arts and the sport gained it’s name as Mixed Martial Arts.

We offer a MMA Foundations class to introduce the basics of striking for MMA, wrestling and grappling. To progress in MMA we recommend attending single discipline classes additionally to develop each phase of MMA separately.
